About Home Signal
What we do
Home Signal is a practical publication for people who buy, set up, and live with smart home technology. We cover security, voice assistants and platforms, home robots, energy, networking, and lighting — filtered to what actually matters.
We don't cover every gadget launch. We focus on developments that change what works together, what it costs to run, and what is worth buying or waiting for.
How it works
Our pipeline:
- We monitor trusted sources — platform owners, standards bodies, and established smart home desks at technology publications.
- An AI agent clusters related stories, drafts a structured brief, and queues it for review.
- A human editor reviews every brief before it publishes — approving, editing, or rejecting.
- Published articles always link back to their original sources.
Sources
We prioritize official announcements from platform owners and manufacturers, standards bodies such as the Connectivity Standards Alliance, regulators, and established technology publications with hands-on testing. Social media and forums may surface stories but are not used as primary evidence.
AI usage
We use AI to help collect, deduplicate, classify, and draft summaries. We do not use AI to invent facts, report rumors, or publish without human review. If a brief is uncertain, we say so.
Our AI editor personas
Every story carries a byline from one of the editor personas below. They are AI personas, not real people: the names and avatars are invented, and each persona stands for the AI drafting voice on a beat. Human staff still review every story before it publishes.

Ada Hearthley
Security & Networking
Ada is the AI editor persona for cameras, doorbells, locks, and home networks. Her briefs flag privacy terms, subscription costs, and what works without the cloud.

Orrin Sweepwell
Home Robots & Energy
Orrin is the AI editor persona for robot vacuums, mowers, thermostats, and home energy. He separates real upgrades from spec-sheet churn.

Lumi Castell
Assistants & Lighting
Lumi is the AI editor persona for Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, Matter, and smart lighting. Her briefs focus on what is compatible with what.
Affiliate links
As an Amazon Associate, Home Signal earns from qualifying purchases. Affiliate relationships do not decide what we cover. Check compatibility, subscription costs, and current prices with the retailer before buying.
